Insurance Claim Process

At Defender Roofing, we specialize in helping our customers through the insurance process so that they can get the most out of their claim. Our step-by-step guide will show you how we can help you.

1. Roof Inspection

For storm-related damage, have your roof examined by a professional contractor.

2. File a Claim

Contact your insurance claims department if you have any damage and file a claim, requesting that an insurance adjuster come to your home.

3. Schedule Adjuster Meeting

Although Texas insurance laws state a contractor can't represent you in your insurance claim, we can still meet with your insurance adjuster to assess the damage and ensure all damaged goods are accounted for during inspection. Let us know when your meeting is.

4. Process Financial Claims

After fair market value is determined (includes cost of labor, materials, and transportation), we'll complete a property loss worksheet for the amount the insurance company allows and process all checks requiring your mortgage company's endorsements.

5. Review Damage Assessment

After your insurance adjuster has assessed the damage, you'll be given a list of the damaged items. Once you've received this paperwork, contact us to double-check that everything has been covered and that you're receiving market value pricing.

6. Contract Signing & Materials

After your claim's total value is determined, we schedule a meeting to sign your replacement contract and finish selecting your materials. All out-of-pocket expenses are specified so you have complete transparency of costs prior to signing.

7. Roof Installation

We guarantee that your roof system will be installed per the manufacturer's specifications and in a timely manner. With our insured team of professionals, you can rest assured that your home or business is in good hands.

8. Payment & Recoverable Depreciation

Once the installation is finished, your ACV and deductible are due. We'll send a final invoice to your insurance company so you can get your recoverable depreciation and any extra funds (if any) back from them. Once received, contact us to collect your final payment. Upon finalizing payment, your warranty processing will be sent.

Storm Damage Effects

Having more insight into the effects of storm damage can aid in your conversations with insurance adjustors.

Hail

The granular surface of a composition shingle's protective coating is what protects its underlying asphalt. When hail (3/4″ to 2″ in diameter) strikes a composition shingle, it destroys the protective layer as well as the asphalt coat and fiberglass mat in some cases. Metal accessories are dented, wood shingles and wood shakes are punctured, and skylights, A/C vents, siding, gutters, downspouts, windows, window beads, and screens are all susceptible to damage.

Wind

A seal tab is used to attach asphalt shingles. During strong winds, this tab might break. Shingles may be damaged, displaced seal tabs and gouges in the roof surface caused by flying debris. If any of these wind effects have occurred, you may be entitled to a full new roof replacement.
